Welcome to Funday! I hope you had a good weekend and are ready for a new week. Today I would like to talk to you about something that isn’t so fun but needs to be addressed.

Piracy

Believe it or not there are people who steal work from digital scrapbooking designers. Just as it is a crime to pirate music and movies, it is also a crime to steal peoples’ work from the Internet. Just because something is on the Internet it doesn’t mean there is no copyright attached to it. Anytime you download any digital scrapbooking item you must follow the guidelines in the Terms of Use (TOU).

The act of Piracy is taking freebies from someone’s site, and putting them on their own site as a freebie or for sale. This is a big NO NO! If you want to share with others what someone has as a freebie you MUST always direct them to the designer’s site for the download. It is also piracy if you download a file and then send that file to a friend.

I am not going to mention the sites that are pirating designers’ work because I don’t want to give them free advertising. Just know that if you are downloading something from a designer, and you are not doing it from their site, then don’t download it!

You might wonder why should it matter which site you download the item from if it is free on both sites. The reason is that the designer will offer the item free for a set amount of time, and then put it in their shop for purchase. When a person steals that item, they put it on their site for free indefinitely. The designer cannot make money if their design is free somewhere else.

Remember to always read the TOU in every file you download.
